Castaneda and Barlow Lead Bloomsburg Swimmers at Zippy Invitational
AKRON, OH- The outstanding swimming for the Bloomsburg University men's and women's swim teams continued on Saturday at the Zippy Invitational at the University of Akron on Saturday.
For the men Juan Casteneda (Shamokin/Shamokin Area) finished third in the 100-fly with a time of 50.87 seconds, just 0.6 seconds off his school record. Castaneda qualified for the finals with a swim of 51.31 in the morning prelims. Also in the 100-fly Michael Bierds (Malvern/West Chester East) took 17th in a time of 52.24 seconds.
In the 100-breast for the men Tim Dorsch (Schwenksville/Souderton Area) was 21st in 1:01.38 with Nick Ortlieb (North Wales/North Penn) taking 23rd in 1:02.13. In the 100-back Derek Straub (Sinking Spring/Wilson) was 22nd in 55.29 after a swim of 54.59 in the prelims.
In relay action the Huskies were 14th in the 200-medley relay with the team of Ryan Lightner (Lebanon/Cedar Crest), Ortlieb, Castaneda and David Mancinelli (Plymouth Meeting/Westmont Hilltop) finishing in 1:37.60, just a second off the school record.
For the women freshman Madeline Barlow (Yardley/Pennsbury) had another big day taking seventh in the 100-fly with a time of 58.30 seconds. In the morning prelims Barlow swam 58.03, within 0.4 seconds of the school record. On Friday Barlow set a school record in the 200-IM.
In the 100-breast Brittany McNeil (Oxford/Oxford Area) took 12th in a time of 1:07.77 after posting a time 1:07.68 in the prelims. In the 100-back Sarah Grawe (Stafford, VA/North Stafford).finished 15th with a time of 1:00.40. In the morning prelims Grawe posted a time of 59.86 seconds just off the school record of 59.18 seconds.
Action will continue on Sunday at the Zippy Invitational.
