Huskies Fall in PSAC Men's Tennis Championship Match
SHIPPENSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team lost to Kutztown, 5-3, in the finals of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference championships on Saturday.
The Huskies fell behind 2-1 after doubles play with the team of Brian Bogus (Conroe, TX/Oak Ridge) and Kurt Caster (Williamsport/Williamsport) defeating Radoslaw Hlubinski and Somdeep Appineni of Kutztown, 8-2. Bloomsburg dropped a tough, 8-6, decision at number one with the team of Mike McGrath (Media/Penncrest) and Aleks Kalezic (Belgrade, Yugoslavia).
In singles play, the Huskies were able to capture wins at number five, Kurt Caster, and number six, Brendan Miller (New Providence/Lampeter-Strasburg). Caster was a winner by a score of 6-0, 6-4, while Miller was victorious 6-3, 6-2.
Two of the key matches that turned the tide in favor of Kutztown were at number two and number three singles. At number two, Kalezic lost a three-settter, 6-2, 1-6, 1-6; while Bogus dropped a 6-1, 7-6, 6 in the tie breaker, decision at number three.
Bloomsburg falls to 15-8 with the loss. The Huskies will take part in the PSAC single and doubles championships next weekend at Bloomsburg.
