Bloomsburg Wins NCAA East Region Division II Tennis Championship

BLOOMSBURG, PA— The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team captured the NCAA Division II East Regional championship with a 5-1 win over Dowling College Saturday morning. The win advances the Huskies to the NCAA championship round in Altamonte Springs, FL May 12th-15th as part of the NCAA Division II Sports Festival.

The Huskies jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles with victories at number two and three. At number two, the team of Brian Bogus and Kurt Caster were 8-4 winners, while at number three, Mark Vellek and Brendan Miller won by an 8-3 count.

In singles play, Bogus won by a 6-4, 6-1 score at number three followed by a 6-3, 6-0 win at number five for Miller. The Huskies capped the victory with a 6-1, 6-2 win by senior Aleks Kalezic at number two singles.

The win improves the Huskies season mark to 17-8 on the year, while Dowling falls to 11-6 with the loss.
