Men's Tennis Players Earn All-PSAC Honors

BLOOMSBURG—Four members of the Bloomsburg University men's tennis team have been named All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for the 2005 season. Named first team All-PSAC were Mike McGrath (Media/Penncrest)and Brian Bogus (Conroe, TX/Oak Ridge), while Mark Vellek (Sioux Falls, SD/Washington) and Dan Gal (South Park/South Park) were both second team choices with Gal also being named the Rookie of the Year.

McGrath, a senior, played number one singles for the Huskies and posted a mark of 6-11 for the season. He came on strong the final month of the season winning five of his final eight matches, including two at the PSAC Individual championships before rain cancelled the remainder of the event.

McGrath, a four-time All-PSAC first team selection and the 2004 PSAC Player of the Year, finished his career with a mark of 54-46.

Bogus, a senior, played at number two singles for Bloomsburg this season and was 9-14 for the year. During the season he put together a stretch where he won five of his matches played to help the Huskies to several team wins.

A three time All-PSAC choice, including two first team selections, Bogus finished his career with a mark of 48-29.

Vellek, a senior, played primarily at number four singles for the Huskies and finished second on the team in wins with 15 finishing with a mark of 15-8. Vellek ended his career by winning six of his final seven matches, including a three-set thriller at the NCAA regional championships.

A three-time second team All-PSAC member, Vellek ended his career with a record of 63-31.

Gal, a freshman, saw most of his time at number three singles this year and posted a mark of 13-10. In the middle of the season Gal won eight of 11 matches played, including four in a row in early April.
