Bloomsburg Men's Tennis Wins Two at Home
BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's tennis team picked up two victories on Sunday beating Slippery Rock University, 9-0, and New Jersey Institute of Technology, 9-0.
Against Slippery Rock, the Huskies swept the doubles behind two routine wins at number one and two with the team of Mike McGrath (Media/PennCrest) and Brian Bogus (Conroe, TX/Oak Ridge) winning at number one, while the team of Mark Vellek (Sioux Falls, SD/Washington) and Kevin Wenck (Allentown/Parkland) cruised to a win at number two. The tightest match came at number three doubles with the team of Mark Farnsworth (Audubon/Methacton) and Cory Smith (Doylestown/Central Bucks West) pulling out an 8-6 victory.
In singles action, McGrath dropped just one game at number one, while Bogus picked up a 6-1, 6-2 victory at number two. Dan Gal (South Park/South Park) didn't drop a single game taking the flight three singles match. Wenck went down 3-1 in the first set before rallying to win 6-3, 6-1 at number four. The Huskies captured flights five and six getting wins from Farnsworth and Geoff Whitely (Wernersville/Conrad Weiser), respectively.
Against NJIT, the Huskies cruised through the doubles losing a total of just four games between the three matches. In singles, Bogus picked up a win at number one, while McGrath held on to win at number two, 6-0, 7-6(2). Gal and Vellek cruised at three and four, respectively. At number five, Farnsworth picked up a 6-0, 6-2 victory with teammate Smith winning 6-2, 6-1 at number six.
The Huskies improve to 7-6 on the season and will next be in action Wednesday as they play host to conference rival Kutztown at 3:00 p.m.
