Dan Gal and Ryan Chow Win PSAC Doubles Title

SHIPPENSBURG--The Bloomsburg University men's tennis duo of Dan Gal (South Park/South Park) and Ryan Chow (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge, NJ) won the 2006 PSAC Men's Tennis Doubles Championship on Sunday at Shippensburg University.

In singles action, Gal made it two titles on the weekend when he won the men's singles title.

Gal and Chow opened the tournament with an 8-2 win over Jeff Kurz and Andrew Sorsi of West Chester. In the finals, Gal and Chow beat Rubens Vianna and Arpit Sharma of Kutztown by an 8-4 score.

Gal made it a perfect weekend when he also captured the singles title. Gal opened the weekend with a 6-1, 6-1 over Somdeep Appineni of Kutztown. In the quarterfinals, Gal beat Chris Matisse of Millersville in straight sets, 6-0, 6-0. In the semifinals, Gal earned a 6-2, 6-2 win over his teammate Chow. In the finals, Gal, the second seed, beat Santiago Baquerizo of Kutztown, the top seed, 6-2, 7-6 (10-8).

On the women's side, the women's doubles team of Emily Murphy (Worcester/Methacton) and Torie Cunningham (Greenlawn, NY/Harborfields) advanced to the quarterfinals with an, 8-2, victory over East Stroudsburg before falling to the team from Slippery Rock.

In singles action, Murphy advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Katie Miller of Kutztown before falling to Nina Reiswich of California.
