Bloomsburg Men's Tennis Opens at Cornell Invitational

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg men's tennis team opened its 2000 season Friday at the Cornell University Invitational.

In "A" Singles action, Tyler Hunsberger dropped his opening match to Ro Navarro of UMASS, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, while David Wolfe also lost in the opening round to Greg Arzt of Cornell, 6-2, 6-4. In the "A" consolation bracket, Hunsberger won 8-1 over Dave Eminovich of Buffalo, while Naylor had a bye into the second round.

In "B" singles action, Andrew Naylor lost to Jason Spiers of Assumption, 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-2, while Kris Shumway lost 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) to Pat Hagan of Cornell. In the "B" consolation matches, Naylor and Shumway had byes into the second round.

In "C' singles action, JP Mourre beat Evan Guttlob of Binghamton, 6-3, 6-3, while Jay Nistad, seeded third, won 4-6, 6-1, 6-2 over Pat Dohnert of Marist.

In "D" singles action, Salim Chraibi of Bloomsburg beat Brent Persion of Buffalo, 6-3, 6-2 to advance.

In "A" doubles action, Wolfe and Shumway beat Sanchez and Samil of UMASS by default, while Hunsberger and Naylor lost to Hagan and Arzt of Cornell, 8-3.

In "B" doubles action, Nistad and Chraibi of Bloomsburg won 8-1 over Arvarja and Crawrford of St. Bonaventure to advance to the quarterfinals.

Action was continuing late into the evening Saturday and would conclude Sunday afternoon.
