NEWPORT NEWS, VA--The Bloomsburg University track team had eight runners place in the the top six at the Captain's Classic Track Meet at Christopher Newport University Saturday.
On the men's side, Dave Gamsby (Sussex, NJ/Vernon Twp) was fourth in the 800 meter run in a time of 2:03.90, four seconds of the winning time. In the 1,500 meter run, Curtis Woodard (Monroeton/Towanda), who took at the Susquehanna Invitational last week, was second this time around in 4:08.34. Woodard was less than a second off the winning time.
In the men's 5,000 meter event, Matt Zappile (Augusta, NJ/Pope John XXIII) was fourth in 16:14.35. Two other runners for the Huskies, Chris Turner (Lawrenceville, NJ/Williamson) and Eric Wolfgang (York/York/York Central), just missed placing in the event. Turner was seventh in 16:46.37, while Wolfgang was eighth in 16:50.35. At 10,000 meters, Dan Sciarrillo (Milford/Delaware Valley) was fourth in 37:41.52.
For the women, the Huskies took 1-2 in the 5,000 meter run. Kim Gasper (Hazleton/Bishop Hafey) was first in a time of 19:52.05, while Julie Bloom (Lafayette/Tully) was second in 20:15.11. Jessica Lightcap (Pottstown/Pottstown) rounded a strong event for the Huskies by finishing fifth in 21:05.97.
In the women's 3,000 meter steeplechase, Lisa Stefursky (Archbald/Valley View) was sixth in 11:58.20 with Carrie-Ann Hiltebeitel (Honeybrook/Twin Valley) seventh in 12:26.31.
The Huskies visit Lock Haven Wednesday for a tri-meet with the Bald Eagles and Mansfield.
