Bloomsburg Takes Part in Bucknell Track Invitational

LEWISBURG—The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track team took part in the Bucknell University Invitational over the weekend.

On Friday, the Huskies' Paul Gardiner (Airville/Kennard Dale) was 13th in the 10,000 meters in a time of 32:30. Gardiner trimmed 30 seconds off his previous best time at the distance. In the 5,000 meters, Justin Dosch (Sunbury/Shiklellamy) qualified for the PSAC championships in a time of 15:39.

For the women on Friday, in the 5,000 meters the Huskies got good performances from Lisa Stefursky (Archbald/Valley View) who finished in 19:45, while Tonia Zangari (Sunbury/Shikellamy) recorded a time of 19:57. Jessica Lightcap (Pottstown/Pottstown) also turned in a time of 20:04 at the distance.

On Saturday, the men were led by Greg McGhee (Philadelphia/Cheltenham) who was 6th in the 100 in a time of 11:01, his best mark of the season. Also, in the 200, McGhee ran a 22:32 and qualified for the PSAC championships. His time was a personal best at that distance.

In the 400 meters, Michael Cogan (Schnecksville/Parkland) ran a time of 50.75, just 5-one hundredths of a second from a PSAC qualifying time.

For the women, in the 1,500 meters, Katie Conlon (Inkerman/Pittston Area) ran a 4:58.55, while Mary Bacher (Allentown/Central Catholic) finished in 5:02.23. Both runners have qualified for the PSAC championships at the distance.

Alos, Cherise Mercer (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt) improved upon her PSAC qualifying time in two events, running the 400 meters in 60.83 and the 800 meters in 2:21.24.

Overall, the Huskies have qualified nine athletes for the PSAC championships, the most in recent memory.
