EAST STROUDSBURG —Bloomsburg University's Greg McGhee (Philadelphia/Cheltenham) won two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track Championships on Sunday becoming the school's first-ever male and sprinter to win a PSAC Indoor title.
McGhee won both the 55-meter and the 200-meter titles on Sunday to earn a spot in the school record books.
In the 55-meter final, McGhee, who was the top seed after Saturday's qualifying heats, set a personal record in winning the race in 6.44 seconds. His time was just 2/100ths off the meet record and the national championship provisional qualifying time.
McGhee then turned his attention to the 200-meter event where he was the second fastest after the qualifying heats on Saturday. McGhee won the event in a time of 22.34 after turning in a time of 22.58 on Saturday. His winning time was just 1/10th of a second off the meet record.
“I am thrilled for Greg,” said coach Karen Brandt, “I thought he had a chance to win the 55-meter race, although I'd didn't think it was a great chance. But, he had in his mind since last year that he wanted to win this event and he worked extremely hard to do it.”
“In the 200-meters, I didn't think he had a chance to win until I saw him run on Saturday,” said Brant/ “Then I knew he could do it. He told me after the race that he had a lot left in him and that he could bring home a win. Both he and I are overwhelmed by this.”
Along with McGhee's double PSAC title, Mike Cogan (Schnecksville/Parkland) finished ninth in the 400-meters in a time of 52.04. Cogan was the last qualifier in the event coming in and finished with his best time ever in the event, chopping nearly ¾ of a second off his qualifying time.
On the women's side, Amanda Pisano (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) took third in the 3,000 meter with a time of 10:16.75 after qualifying for the event in a time of 10:34.
In the women's 800 meters, Cherise Mercer (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt) was 8th of 18 competitors in a season-best time of 2:21.83.
