Huskies Qualify Four for PSAC Indoor Track Championships

EAST STROUDSBURG— The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track teams competed at the DeShriver Invitational at East Stroudsburg on Saturday. The Huskies qualified four more athletes to the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Indoor Track Championships to be held at the end of the month.

In the men's 5,000 meters, Bill Shepardson (McMurray/Peters Township) placed sixth out of 15 competitors with a time of 16:00.23 to qualify for the PSAC championships. Coming in two places behind Shepardson in eighth was Eric Woodard (York/Central York), with a time of 16:07.69.

Amanda Pisano (Smithtwon, NY/Smithtown) was second out of 16 competitors in the women's 5,000 meters finishing with a time of 18:29.74.

The Huskies also qualified two women in the 3,000 meter race. Sarah Bounds (Shippensburg/ Shippensburg) placed fourth out of 27 runners with a time of 10:56.40 qualifying her for the PSAC championships. Mary Bacher, (Allentown/Central Catholic) also in the 3,000, finishing in 11:01.34, good enough for sixth place, and a spot at the PSAC championships.

In the mile, Brandon Palmer (Carlisle/Big Spring) ran a 4:34.50, two seconds shy of a PSAC championship-qualifying time.

In the sprints, Mike Cogan (Schnecksville/Parkland) earned a PSAC-qualifying time, running the 400 meters in 52.70. Cogan came close to another qualifying time, finishing the 200 meters with a time of 23.63, three-hundredths away from a PSAC championship berth.

Greg McGhee (Philadelphia/Cheltenham) finished fourth in the finals of the 55-meter race with a time of 6.62, improving upon the 6.66 he ran earlier in the day.

For the women, Cherise Mercer (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt) improved her time in the 800 meters to 2:25.40, while Hilary Rice (Douglassville/Bangor Area) ran a 2:29.98, two seconds away from the PSAC qualifier.

The Huskies will travel to Kutztown University on Feb. 14 to compete in the East Challenge Meet.
