Bloomsburg Track Team Runs at Bucknell
LEWISBURG —The Bloomsburg University men's and women's indoor track teams took part in the Bucknell Invitational on Friday and Saturday with several athletes running qualifying times for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Championships.
In men's action, the Huskies' men's distance medley relay team of Mike Espinosa (Media/Penncrest), Jamie Ruth, Matt Corridoni (Pittston/Pittston Area) and Dave Sanford (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) ran a PSAC-qualifying time of 10:34.63, third fastest in the PSAC this season.
Also, in the 60-meter event, Greg McGhee (Philadelphia/Cheltenham) ran 7.15 to finish sixth overall in the event. McGhee's time was also good enough for PSAC's. At 200-meters, McGhee was fifth overall with a time of 22.91, a season-best.
In the 3,000 meter race, Mike Espinosa qualified for the PSAC championships in his second event after running an 8:56.87. Just missing the PSAC-qualifying time were Bill Shephardson (McMurray/Peters Township) (9:03.65) and Justin Shepherd (Cranberry Twp/Seneca Valley) (9:03.71). In the men's 800 meters, Matt Corridoni just missed qualifying for the PSAC championships with a time of 2:01.37. (The qualifying time is 2:01.00).
Finally, the men's 4 x 400 meter team of Ruth, Sanford, Sam Martin and Matt Corridoni ran 3:32.49.
For the women, Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Central Catholic) was 12th out of 35 runners at 5,000 meters in a PSAC-qualifying time of 19:26.06.
In the 800-meter race, Cherise Mercer (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt) was ninth out of 49 with a PSAC-qualifying time of 2:26.93. Katie Conlon (Inkerman/Pittston Area) was 14th out of 49 in 2:29.69. Conlon missed qualifying by 1.69 seconds. Conlon also ran the mile in a time 5:33.79 and missed qualifying by 1.79.
At 3,000 meters, Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/Middleburg) ran 11:07.36 with Karen Hause (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) posting a time of 11:10.60. Hackenberg was seventh and Hause 10th out of 26 runners.
