Track Team Competes at Kutztown

KUTZTOWN—The Bloomsburg University men's and women's track teams competed at the East Challenge at Kutztown on Saturday. The women placed fifth with 57 points, while the men placed sixth with 39.50 points.

For the women, Karen Hause (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) finished first in the 5000-meter run with a time of 19:14.22. Cherise Mercer (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt) and Connie Raineri (Gilbertville/Saint Pius) each had second place finishes. Mercer finished the 800-meter dash in 2:24.92, while Raineri had a distance of 17' 2 ¾'' inches in the long jump. Katie Conlon (Inkerman/Pittston Area) finished fourth in the one mile run with a time of 5:29.95 and fifth in the 800-meter dash with a time of 2:29.19. Conlon's time was one second short of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) qualifying time of 2:28. Raineri finished ninth in the 200-meter dash in 28.04, while also running 7.81 in the 55-meters, 1/100th of a second off the championship qualifying time. The distance medley relay team finished third in 13:21.89.

The men were led by Greg McGhee (Philadelphia/Cheltenham) who finished second in the 200-meter dash in 22.85 and third in the 55-meter dash in 6.64. Mike Espinosa (Media/Penncrest) placed third in the one mile run with a time of 4:31.55, while Justin Shepherd (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) placed sixth in the same race with a time of 4:34.42. Matt Corridoni (Pittston/Pittston) finished the 400-meter dash in 52.43, good for seventh place. With his time in the 400, Corridoni qualifies for the PSAC's. Dave Sandford (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) was fifth among the 30 men contesting the 800 meters with a finishing time of 2:03.11. Jamie Ruth also missed the qualifying time for the championships in the 400-meter by 7/100 of a second with his 52.67 performance. The distance medley relay team finished second with a time of 10:54.62.

Bloomsburg is back in action against Susquehanna University on February 18th.
