Huskies Compete in First Day of PSAC Indoor Championships

EAST STROUDSBURG—The Bloomsburg University track team competed at the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) track championships on Saturday. The men finished the day in eighth place while the women are in 10th.
Defending PSAC champion Greg McGhee (Philadelphia/Cheltenham) took first place in two heats for the Huskies. McGhee, the 2004 champion in the 55-meters, took first in his heat in 6.48. McGhee's time was the second fastest of all competitors. Marcus Waddy (Philadelphia/Frankford) also turned in a solid performance in the 55-meters, finishing in 6.75. In the 200, McGhee also took first in his heat in 22.52. McGhee's time was fourth fastest of all competitors in the 200.
Bloomsburg also turned in three solid performances in the 5000-meters. Justin Shepherd (Cranberry Twp./Seneca Valley) finished fourth in 15:07 while Bill Shepardson (McMurray/Peters Township) took 14th in 15:55. Tim Marcoe (Lansdale/Lansdale Catholic) finished behind Shepardson in 15th place in a time of 15:57.
The Huskies distance medley relay team also ran well, taking sixth. The team of Michael Espinosa (Media/Penncrest), Matt Corridoni (Pittston/Pittston), David Sanford (Nescopeck/Central Columbia) and Jamie Ruth finished in 10:32.15. Ruth also ran well in the 400-meters, finishing in 53.20.
In the women's 5000-meter run, three Huskies turned in top 10 finishes. Amber Hackenberg (Middleburg/Middleburg) placed third in 18:06, shaving :50 off of her seed time. Hackenberg's performance also helped her earn all-PSAC honors. Her teammates Sarah Bounds (Shippensburg/Shippensburg) and Karen Hause (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) also ran solid races for the Huskies. Bounds took eighth in 18:46 while Hause finished ninth in 18:53.
The women's distance medley relay team of Mary Bacher (New Tripoli/Central Catholic), Laura Duceman (Mt. Carmel/Mt. Carmel), Cherise Mercer (Philadelphia/Bishop McDevitt), and Katie Conlon (Inkerman/Pittston Area) also ran strong, taking fifth place. The women finished in 12:47.12.
The Huskies return to action tomorrow as they compete in the second day of the PSAC Championships at 10:00 a.m.
