Bloomsburg Wins PSAC Women's Crown Based on Seed

BLOOMSBURG—In a match that lasted over seven hours, including rain delays, the Bloomsburg University women's tennis team won the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) title based on its seeding.

The Huskies, the top ranked team in the PSAC East coming into the conference championship, won the title after the match was called due to inclement weather. Since Bloomsburg was the top seed and Kutztown the second seed, Bloomsburg was awarded the match.

With Bloomsburg trailing 2-1 after doubles play, Kutztown won the first two singles matches completed to go up 4-1. The Huskies' Kim Harvey lost a tough 2-6, 6-7 (7-2) decision to Lauren Losoncy at number five, while Emily Murphy also dropped a tough 1-6, 6-7 (7-5) decision to Amy Withers playing at number two.

With Bloomsburg needing four straight wins for the title, the Huskies went to work and picked up three straight decisions. Lauren Colfer won 6-3, 6-3 over Bianca Blatz at number six while Lindsey Wyckoff won a three set match over Priya Pachkawde by a score of 6-4, 1-6, 6-1. Torie Cunningham evened the match at 4-4 with a 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 win over Jharna Nansi at number four.

Coming down to the number one singles match for the title, Bloomsburg's Iida Hokkanen and Kutztown's Kerstin Kloeffer split sets before Kloeffer took a 5-2 lead in the third. Snow then began to fall on the court making conditions unplayable. Bloomsburg was then awarded their second straight PSAC title and their ninth overall.
