BLOOMSBURG—Six members of the 2000 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion lacrosse team from Bloomsburg University were named All-American by the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaching Association (IWLCA). The group will be awarded their honors at the IWLCA banquet June 10.
Named first team All-American attack was Michele Baylor (Broomall/Cardinal O'Hara), while Roxann Emerick (Zionsville/Boyertown) was named first team midfield and Yshonda Wisher (North Wales/North Penn) first team goalkeeper. Named second team All-American attack was Katie MacLean (Medford, NJ/Shawnee), while twin sisters Margo and Nicole Wiley (New Britain/Central Bucks West) were named second team All-American defense.
In addition, Emerick has been selected as the Honda Awards lacrosse nominee for the Division II Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year. The Division II Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year will be announced in June.
Baylor, a senior, led the Huskies in scoring this season with 47 goals while adding 14 assists for a team-high 61 points. Baylor, the team's MVP in 2000, scored five goals and assisted on one in the Huskies' 11-10, double- overtime win in the PSAC title game against East Stroudsburg. Down the stretch of the year, Baylor came alive with her scoring, getting five or more goals in four of the final six games this season. For her career, Baylor finished as the Huskies' all-time leader in assists with 50 while scoring 126 goals.
Emerick, a junior, was second on the team in goals scored this season with 39 and was third in points with 48. She scored once in the PSAC championship and had five or more games this season with three or more goals. In her career, Emerick has scored 93 goals and assisted on 23 others.
Emerick is the second Bloomsburg player this academic year to be named a Honda Award nominee. She joins Jess Kircher from the field hockey team as a nominee from Bloomsburg. The Huskies are the only Division II institution in the country to have two players named as nominees.
Wisher, a sophomore, posted a saves percentage of .587 for the year stopping 155 shots and a goals against average of 8.26. Wisher went the first six games of the year before allowing a team to score in double digits. For the second straight year, Wisher played every minute of every game. Wisher was the 1999 PSAC Rookie of the Year and first team All-PSAC selection.
Margo Wiley, a junior, was one of the Huskies' top defenders this season. A defensive wing, Margo was involved in the Huskies' transition game and saw as much time on the offensive end as she did on the defensive end of the field. She also developed into a complete player this season after becoming more aggressive. Margo finished the season with six goals and seven assists.
Nicole Wiley, a junior, had some of the best defensive technique on the Huskies this season. Quick with the check, Nicole is a player who knows when to double team an opponent and is very good at crease defense. She finished with one assist.
MacLean, a sophomore, was third on the Huskies in goals with 31 and led the team in assists with 20, a new school single-season record. MacLean's best game of the year was a six-goal, three-assist performance in a 24-8 rout of Philadelphia University in March. She also had two goals and three assists in a win over Longwood College and two goals in the Huskies' win over East Stroudsburg in the PSAC title game.
Bloomsburg finished the year 10-3 winning its second PSAC championship.
