Wolyniec Earns All-American Status At NCAA Track Championships

RALEIGH, NC—Bloomsburg University track standout Michele Wolyniec (Plains/Coughlin HS) capped off a tremendous career by finishing eighth in the 10,000 meter race at the NCAA Division II Track Championships in Raleigh, North Carolina Thursday night. By virtue of her eighth place finish, Wolyniec earns All-American honors for the second time in her career.

Wolyniec finished the race in 37:19.4, missing seventh place by less than a second. Sylvia Chelimo of Gardner-Webb won the event in 35:35.6.

"The pace was uneven, but fast right from the start," said Bloomsburg track coach Karen Brandt. "Plus, it was hot and humid night, not ideal running conditions. I am extremely proud of Michele and how she battled throughout the race. Hopefully this is the start of something positive for the Bloomsburg University track program."

As a freshman, Wolyniec finished sixth at 10,000 meters to earn All-American honors for the first time in her career. Earlier this season she captured the ECAC Indoor 5,000 meter championship in Boston, MA.
