Rich Mills Named Interim Head Coach at Bloomsburg University

Rich Mills BLOOMSBURG—Bloomsburg University has named Rich Mills as interim head coach for men's basketball. Mills replaces the Huskies' longtime coach Charlie Chronister who retired from coaching.

Following the 2002-03 season, Bloomsburg will conduct a national search for a head coach.

Mills spent 12 years as assistant for the Huskies serving as the recruiting coordinator, academic monitor, overseeing the strength and conditioning program and scouting.

In addition, he has been director of the highly successful Huskies' basketball camps for eight years.

"I want to thank the university administration and athletic director Mary Gardner for giving me the opportunity to take over as head coach on an interim basis," said Mills. "It has been an honor to work with Charlie (Chronister) for the past 12 years and I have learned a great deal from him which I will now put to use this coming season."

"We (Bloomsburg) have a strong group of players returning for the upcoming season as well as having a very good class of recruits," Mills continued. "I am looking forward to working with the team."

Mills joined the Bloomsburg staff after spending one season as an assistant at St. Bonaventure University in Olean, New York. The previous two years, Mills was a member of the basketball staff at Fairleigh Dickinson University in Teaneck, NJ.

As a member of the staff at Fairleigh Dickinson, he helped lead the Knights to a 23-7 mark, the best in the school's history. The club won the regular-season championship of the ECAC Metro Conference with a record of 13-3 and participated in the NCAA Championships Midwest Regional where the Knights fell to Purdue.

Prior to joining Fairleigh Dickinson, he was assistant coach at St. Joseph's (NY) College for two seasons helping the club to a record of 35-15.

In addition, he was the assistant coach for the Long Island Knights of the professional United States Basketball League working with head coach Dean Meminger, former standout guard for the New York Knicks.

In the summer of 1998, Mills served as an assistant coach with a team of college all-stars that toured Venezuela.

Mills is a 1984 graduate of Fairleigh Dickinson where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing.

He was a three-sport performer at Oceanside (NY) High School in football, basketball and lacrosse.

Mills and his wife,Tracey, are the parents of a daughter, Korey and a son, Jason.
