Ashley Yelinek Named Third Team Academic All-America

BLOOMSBURG-- Former Bloomsburg University women's swimmer Ashley Yelinek (Youngwood/Southmoreland) has been named to third team 2007 ESPN The Magazine Women's At-Large Academic All-America team by the College Sports Information Directors of America.

Yelinek, who graduated in May with a degree in biology, posted a GPA of 3.99 while at Bloomsburg.

As a swimmer, Yelinek was a two-time Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) champion in the 1650-free and has also finished second and fifth in her career in the 1000-free. In winning this year's 1650-free event, Yelinek swam nearly six seconds faster than her seed time and also beat the runner-up in the event by more than six seconds.

For her efforts in the classroom, she was also named the 2006-07 Bloomsburg University Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year.

To be nominated, the student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) for his/her career.

Sports covered in the women's at-large balloting include, women's bowling, women's crew, men's and women's fencing, women's field hockey, men's and women's golf, men's and women's gymnastics, men's and women's ice hockey, men's and women's lacrosse, men's and women's rifle, men's and women's skiing, men's and women's swimming, men's and women's tennis, men's volleyball, men's and women's water polo and men's wrestling.
