BLOOMSBURG— The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) honored two Bloomsburg University softball players, Erica Miller (Williamsport/Williamsport) and Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) for their outstanding play last week.
Miller, a senior, was named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week after hitting .500 for the week (8-16) with three homers and nine runs batted in. Miller also scored seven runs and had a slugging percentage of 1.375. Her grand slam homer against Millersville, in game one of a doubleheader, was the 290th hit of her career, tying her for the all-time lead in that category in Bloomsburg and PSAC history. She broke the record with an opposite field homer against Millersville in game two of the doubleheader.
For the year, Miller is batting a team- and PSAC-best .484 with 14 homers and 44 RBI. She has a slugging percentage of .977 along with team-highs in runs scored (52) and doubles (19). It is the second time this season Miller has been named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week.
Cowher, a freshman, was named co-Pitcher of the Week along with Liz Lyon of Mansfield University. Last week Cowher was 4-0 with a 1.35 ERA. She had 20 strikeouts and just three walks in 20 and a 1/3 innings of work. She threw a one-hit, five-inning shutout against Millersville, the followed that up with a division clinching win over Kutztown and won both ends of the doubleheader against West Chester.
For the year Cowher is 18-3 with a 1.22 ERA. She has a team-high 98 strikeouts and just 21 walks in 137 innings of work. The Pitcher of the Week honor is the fourth time this season she has won or shared the award.
Bloomsburg, 36-5, will host the 2001 PSAC Softball championships at Jan Hutchinson Field Friday and Saturday, May 4-5.
