Bloomsburg Softball Players Earn Weekly Honors

BLOOMSBURG—Two Bloomsburg University softball players, Jessica Shnyder (Milton/Milton) and Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport),were honored by the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) for their play last week.

Jessica Shnyder Shnyder, a freshman outfielder, was named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week, while Cowher, a freshman pitcher, was selected co-Pitcher of the Week.

Shnyder hit .571 (12-21) last week with two homers, a triple and nine runs batted in. One of Shnyder's hits was a three-run homer against Kutztown which proved be the gamewinner for the Huskies. Her solid all-around performances included driving in five runs in game one vs. West Chester, then going 3-for-3 in game two against the Golden Rams. Shnyder ended the week going -for-6 in a doubleheader against East Stroudsburg this past Saturday.

For the year, Shnyder is hitting .398 (43-108) with three homers and 26 RBI. She is third on the team in runs scored with 43 and is tied for the team lead in triples with three.

Amber Cowher Cowher was 3-0 last week with a 1.64 ERA. Her best game of the week came against East Stroudsburg when she no-hit the Warriors, allowing just one walk and striking out two. For the week, Cowher allowed just nine hits in 17 innings with four walks and 13 strikeouts.

On the season Cowher is 12-3 with a 1.32 ERA. She has five shutouts, 14 complete games and leads the team with 68 strikeouts while walking just 16.

Bloomsburg is 26-5 overall and 10-4 in the PSAC Eastern Division. The Huskies visit Mansfield Wednesday at 3 p.m. for a doubleheader.
