Bloomsburg Splits Doubleheader with Caldwell in Softball

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University softball teams split a pair of games versus Caldwell College Saturday afternoon, winning game one, 4-1, and losing game two, 3-1.

In game one, the Huskies battled back from a 1-0 deficit in the fifth, scoring a pair of runs and taking the lead that they would never surrender. Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) and Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) combined for a one-hitter to pick up the win. Smith started and pitched 3 1/3 innings, allowing one hit and zero walks, while striking out one. Cowher picked up the win in relief, throwing 3 2/3 innings of hitless ball, while walking none and striking out seven.

On offense, Bloomsburg was led by Liza Pepper (Cumbola/Pottsville) who went 2-3. Alyson Taylor (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) went 1-3 with a double, while Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville) chipped in going 1-3 with a double that drove in the Huskies' go-ahead run.

In game two, Caldwell took advantage of six Bloomsburg errors to win the game. Jamie Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) and Cowher were effective on the mound, allowing only six hits and three walks, while striking out one batter. On offense, Pepper stroked two more hits, including a double, while Becca Kehler (Klingerstown/Tri-Valley) went 1-3 with a double.

Bloomsburg, 13-5 will be idle till Monday, March 31st when they open up Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action at Mansfield starting at 2:30 p.m.
