Bloomsburg Takes Pair from Philadelphia In Softball

BLOOMSBURG, PA-The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games from Philadelphia University Sunday afternoon. The Huskies won 8-0 in five innings in game one and won game two by the score of 6-0. Bloomsburg is now 10-4 on the season.

In game one, pitcher Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) threw a complete game one-hitter, striking out eight batters, while walking only one as the team used an all-around strong effort to defeat Philadelphia. The defense was solid, committing zero errors, while the offense pounded out 11 hits. Leading the offense was Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) who went 2-3 with a triple. Jess Shnyder (Milton/Milton) chipped in going 2-4, while Liza Pepper (Cumbola/Pottsville) was 1-1 with a double, a walk and a sacrifice.

In the nightcap, the Huskies once again used solid hitting and pitching to shutout Philadelphia. Breon led the offense with a two-run homerun, while Crystal Condran (Hummelstown/Hershey) chipped in with a double. Lisa Lowe (Yardley/Pennsbury) went 2-3 with a pair of singles in the win. Jamie Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) and Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) split the pitching duties for the Huskies, combining for a three-hitter. Wilson started the game, throwing four innings and striking out four batters, while Smith struck out five batters in three innings of work. The duo combined to allow just one walk in the game.

The Huskies are next in action Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Lock Haven for a doubleheader beginning at 2:30 p.m.
