Bloomsburg Sweeps East Stroudsburg in SoftballBLOOMSBURG — The Bloomsburg University softball team threw 14 shutout innings on Thursday as it posted wins of 2-0 and 3-0 over East Stroudsburg University. Senior Amber Cowher pitched the first shutout in game one of the twinbill as she struck out 14 and allowed just four hits. The win was the 10th of the season, while the shutout was the 20th of her career. Bloomsburg's runs came in the bottom of the third and sixth innings. In the third inning Jessica Shnyder tripled with one out to set up Sara Roba's RBI single. In the sixth Becca Kehler was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning. Pinch runner Sarah McDaniel and moved to second on a fielders choice and then to third on a wild pickoff throw. McDaniel then scored on a sinlge by Samantha Basalik. In game two, Amanda Smith threw a shutout giving up only three hits and striking out five to improve her record to 4-0 on the year. The Huskies scored single runs in the second, third and fourth innings to back the pitching of Smith. Pepper scored the first run when she walked and moved to second on a single by Alyson Taylor. She later scored on a two-out single by Basalik. In the third Amanda Breon walked and moved to second on a fielder's choice. After advancing to third on a sinlge by Pepper, she scored when Deanna Wolfe reached on an error. The last run of the game came in the fourth when Sarah McDaniel walked and moved to second on a single by Basalik. She then came home on a single by Breon to give the Huskies a 3-0 lead. Bloomsburg 20-6, 7-1 in the PSAC East, will visit Millersville on Friday at 3 p.m. in a makeup doubleheader. |
