Bloomsburg Softball Wins Pair in FloridaORLANDO, FLThe Bloomsburg University softball team picked up its first two wins of the season Monday with victories over St. Joe's of Indiana, 3-2, and a 7-1 win over New Haven. The Huskies trailed 2-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning when they scored three times to get the win against St. Joe's. Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) led of with a single and was sacrificed to second by Liza Pepper (Cumbola/Pottsville). After a pop out, Melanie Anderson (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) walked to put runners at first and second. Roba then scored when Samantha Basalik (Warminster/Wm. Tennent) reached on an error by the shortstop. Crystal Condron(Hummelstown/Hershey) then singled home Anderson and Basalik with the game winning runs. Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) went the distance pitching for the Huskies and struck out six and allowed just three hits. In game two, the Huskies beat New Haven behind the hitting of Jess Shnyder (Milton/Milton). The junior centerfielder had a three-run triple to highlight a five run second inning. Anderson also had a two-run single for the Huskies in the inning. Sophomore Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) went the distance pitching and allowed just three hits. Bloomsburg, 2-2, will face Truman State and Southwest State of Missouri on Tuesday.
