Bloomsburg Sweeps Two Games In Softball
ORLANDO, FLThe Bloomsburg University softball team ran its winning streak in Florida to four games with a pair of 4-0 wins on Tuesday. The Huskies beat Truman State and Southwest State of Minnesota.
In game one, Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) threw a two-hit shutout while striking out eight and walking just one. Bloomsburg scored its first run when Liza Pepper (Cumbola/Pottsville) laid down a suicide squeeze bunt to score Laurel Koster (Whitney Point, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) in the fourth inning. In the fifth, Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) drew a bases loaded walk to force in the second run, while in the fifth, Jess Shnyder (Milton/Milton) doubled home two insurance runs.
In game two, the Huskies got a complete game one-hitter from Jamie Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) who also struck out five and allowed just one walk. For Wilson, it is also the second straight she has started the season with a complete game shutout.
Bloomsburg got all the offense it would need in the first inning. Samantha Basalik (Warminster/Wm. Tennent) singled with one out. After Basalik moved up to second on a ground out, Deanna Wolfe (Milton/Milton) singled her home for the first run of the game. After Roba singled putting runners at first and second, Pepper singled home Wolfe to make it a 2-0 game. The Huskies would later add insurance with single runs in the fifth and sixth inning.
The only hit allowed by Wilson in the game was a one-out bloop down the left field line in the sixth inning.
Bloomsburg, 4-2, will play Ferris State and Southern Indiana on Wednesday.
