Huskies Sweep Kutztown in Softball

BLOOMSBURG- The Bloomsburg University softball team won both games of a doubleheader against Kutztown University on Thursday afternoon winning game one, 3-0 and the nightcap, 1-0. With the wins, Bloomsburg clinched first place in the PSAC Eastern Division and will host the conference playoffs May 2-3.
In the opener, Bloomsburg pitcher Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) threw a four-hit shutout against the Golden Bears to record her second straight shutout and her 12th of the season. Cowher struck out 10 in the win to improve her record to 16-5 on the season.
Offensively, Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte Area) had two hits and two RBI to lead the Huskies while Jess Shnyder (Milton/Milton) and Liza Pepper (Cumbola/Pottsville) both added two hits in the game.
In game two, Jen Probst (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) and Jaime Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) combined on a five-hit shutout. Probst started the game going four innings, with no walks and one strikeout. Wilson came in to relieve her in the fifth inning and finished the game with no walks and four strikeouts.
The Huskies only run came in the third inning. Jess Shnyder singled to lead off the inning. Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville) laid down a sacrifice bunt to move Shnyder over to second and Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte Area) followed with a single to score Shnyder. Breon was Bloomsburg's top hitter going 2-2 with a walk and RBI. Four other Huskies contributed with four singles.
The Huskies, 32-8, 19-3 in the PSAC East, will visit East Stroudsburg Saturday at 1 p.m.
