MANSFIELD —The Bloomsburg University softball team improved to 4-0 in PSAC East action by sweeping a pair of games against Mansfield Thursday afternoon.

In the opener pitcher Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) threw a four-hit shutout and struckout seven in getting the win.

After the four scoreless innings, the Huskies broke through for three runs in the top of the fifth inning. Kelly Zarski singled to open the inning and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. After Jess Shnyder walked, both runners moved up on a wild pitch. Liza Pepper then walked to load the bases. Zarski then stole home with Shnyder and Pepper each moving up a base. Sara Roba then hit a sacrifice fly scoring Shynder with Pepper coming home on a single by Melanie Anderson giving Bloomsburg a 3-0 lead.

The Huskies tacked on their final run in the seventh with Shnyder scoring on a single by Roba.

Anderson finished 2-3 with an RBI, while Roba was 1-3 with two RBI.

In game two, the Huskies trailed 1-0 when they scored twice in the fourth inning to take the lead. With one out in the inning Roba walked and Anderson singled putting runners at first and second. Becca Kelher then doubled scoring both runners to give Bloomsburg the lead.

The Huskies put the game away with four runs in the top of the sixth. Pepper doubled to lead off the inning. Sarah McDaniel, running for Pepper, moved to third on a wild pitch, then scored when Sara Roba reached on an error. Anderson then doubled putting runners at second and third. Kehler then doubled home both runners for a 5-1 Bloomsburg lead. Kehler later scored on a single by Samantha Basalik.

Pitcher Jamie Wilson went the distance and allowed six hits and two runs while striking out five. Kelher finished 2-3 with four RBI, while Anderson was 2-4 with two runs scored.

Bloomsburg, 17-5, 4-0 in the PSAC East, will be at Kutztown Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
