Bloomsburg Splits with Mansfield in Softball

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University softball team split a twinbill with Mansfield University Saturday afternoon losing game one, 7-2, and winning the nightcap, 5-0.

In the opener, the Huskies' Amber Cowher had her consecutive scoreless innings streak snapped at 37 when Nancy Quinn homered to lead off the second inning. Cowher had her streak snapped seven innings short of reach 20th place on the all-time Division II list.

Mansfield hit four home runs in all as the Huskies had their six-game winning snapped.

Kelly Zarski and Deanna Wolfe led the offense for Bloomsburg in game two with each getting two hits.

In game two, pitcher Jamie Wilson threw a four-hit shutout at Mansfield as the Huskies won 5-0. The Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first when Jess Shndyer scored on a Wolfe fielder's choice ground out. Bloomsburg made it 3-0 in the third when Zarski doubled home two runners. Bloomsburg added two more in the sixth with Jamie Wilson getting an RBI on a bases loaded walk and Shnyder hitting a bloop single to score the fifth and final run.

Shnyder finished with three hits in game two, while Zarski was 2-4.

Bloomsburg, 28-8, 15-3 in the PSAC East, will visit Shippensburg Tuesday at 3 p.m.
