Bloomsburg Sweeps in Softball Over MillersvilleMILLERSVILLE The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a twinbill with Millersville on Tuesday winning 4-0 and 7-6. In the opener, Amber Cowher threw her third straight shutout to lead the Huskies to the win. Cowher allowed just five hits and struck out 11 to post her 12th win of the season. She unscored upon now in her last 22 innings. The Bloomsburg offense was led in game one by Jess Shynder who went 1-4 with a two-run triple. Kelly Zarski was 1-3 with an RBI, while Dee Wolfe was 1-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Locked in a scoreless game heading into the fifth inning, Wolfe reached on an error with one out moving all the way to third on the play. Samantha Basalik then bunted for a single. After a strike out, Shnyder tripled to give Bloomsburg a 2-0 lead. In the sixth, the Huskies made it 4-0 when Liza Pepper walked with Sarah McDaniel coming in to pinch-run. Sara Roba doubled moving McDaniel to third. Kelly Zarski then squeezed home McDaniel for a 3-0 lead before Wolfe singled sending home Roba for a 4-0 lead. In game two, the Huskies jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning. Shynder led off with a homer. Amanda Breon then reached on an error and was sacrificed to second. After Roba walked, Wolfe reach on an error to load the bases. Zarski then singled in Breon to make it 2-0 with Roba later scoring on a wild-pitch. After Millersville made it 3-2, the Huskies scored four times in the top of the fourth inning to take a 7-2 lead. After Basalik singled and went to second on a sacrifice, Shnyder doubled her home for the first run of the inning. Shnyder later scored on a wild-pitch with the other two runs coming on doubles from McDaniel and Wolfe. Millersville cut the margin to 7-6 with three in the fourth and one in the fifth. However, Jamie Wilson, on in relief of Amanda Smith, allowed just one hit over the final two innings to earn the win. Bloomsburg, now 23-7, 10-2 in the PSAC East, will visit West Chester Wednesday at 3 p.m. |
