Bloomsburg Advances at NCAA Softball RegionalsSHIPPENSBURG The Bloomsburg University softball team won its opening round game by a 3-0 score over California (PA). The game was completed Friday morning after play on Thursday was suspended by rain. The Huskies took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) singled and Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) doubled to start the inning. Liza Pepper (Cumbola/Pottsville) then singled home Wolfe with the first run of the game. After a rain delay in the third inning, play resumed and the Huskies added another run in the bottom of the fourth before more rain came suspending play for the day. Wolfe led off the fourth with a single and moved to second on a bunt by Roba. Pepper then flied out with Wolfe moving to third. Melanie Anderson (East Hampton, NY/East Hampton) then singled home Wolfe with the game's second run. Then more rain fell and play was suspended till Friday morning. When play resumed the Huskies put one more run on the board in the bottom of the fifth inning. Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville) singled to open the inning and moved to second on a bunt. Wolfe reached on fielder's choice with Zarski moving to third. Zarski then scored when Roba reached on an error. Pitcher Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) threw her 13th shutout of the season to get the win and had 10 strikeouts along the way. |
