Bloomsburg Eliminated From NCAA Softball RegionalsSHIPPENSBURG The Bloomsburg University softball team suffered a pair of 1-0 defeats on Saturday at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals and saw its season come to an end. The Huskies lost to Shippensburg in a winner's bracket game, then lost to Cal in an elimination game. Against the Lady Raiders, the Huskies managed just two hits on the day, both by Kelly Zarski. The freshman singled in the first and seventh innings but could not score. In the first inning her hit came with two outs, while in the seventh, Zarski singled to lead off the inning. However, Zarski was erased on a fielder's choice with Sara Roba bouncing into a double play to end the inning. Shippensburg scored the game's only run in the bottom of the seventh when Jamie Dacey singled to start the inning. Sarah Costa then sacrificed Dacey to second where she scored on a single by Anne Corr. Bloomsburg's Amber Cowher was the tough luck loser allowing just five hits and no walks, while striking out seven. In the Huskies' second game of the day, Bloomsburg lost to Cal (PA), 1-0. The Vulcans scored the game's only run in the top of the sixth when Becky Mezyk singled and later scored on a hit by Maggie Fricko. Bloomsburg's best chance to score came in the bottom of the sixth when, with two outs, Zarski and Dee Wolfe reached on errors. However, Roba grounded out to end the inning. Jaime Wilson was the hard luck loser for the Huskies going six innings and allowing seven hits and just the one run. She also struck out four and walked none. The Huskies end their season with a mark of 37-13. |
