Bloomsburg Sweeps PSAC Softball Weekly Softball Awards

BLOOMSBURG—For the second consecutive week the Bloomsburg University softball team has swept the weekly awards from the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).

Named the PSAC Eastern Division Player of the Week was Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte), while Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) earned the PSAC East Pitcher of the Week award.

Breon, a sophomore shortstop, hit .500 (9-18) with four runs scored, a homer and four RBI in helping the Huskies to five wins in six games. Breon also had one double and one triple for a slugging percentage of .833 as the Huskies won the PSAC Eastern Division title. In a twin bill with ESU, she was 4-6 with three runs scored, two RBI and a home run.

For the season, Breon is hitting .265 with three homers and 23 RBI. She also has seven doubles and a team-high seven triples.

Cowher, a junior, was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA in 17 innings of work last week. In three starts she threw two complete games and had two shutouts. She allowed just seven hits, no runs, walked only four and struck out 23, while opponents hit just .123 off her for the week. It is the third time this season she has been named the PSAC Pitcher of the Week.

For the year, Cowher is 17-5 with a 1.22 ERA. She has 12 shutouts and 15 complete games with a team-high 159 strikeouts. She has issued just 37 walks and opponents are hitting just .156 off her.

Bloomsburg, 33-9, will host the PSAC softball championships, this Friday and Saturday at Jan Hutchinson Field. The Huskies will face Indiana (PA) in the opening round on Friday at 10 a.m.
