Bloomsburg Sweeps Shippensburg in SoftballSHIPPENSBURG The Bloomsburg University softball team swept Shippensburg University in a twinbill on Tuesday afternoon winning game one, 3-0 and the nightcap, 6-1. In the opener, Bloomsburg pitcher Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) rebounded from her worst outing of the season to throw a one-hit shutout against the Lady Raiders, her 11th shutout of the season. Cowher struck out nine and walked to in getting her 15th win of the season. The only hit allowed by Cowher was a second inning single by Beth Rudai. Cowher got all the runs she would need when the Huskies scored twice in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth. In the fourth inning Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) led off with a home run for a 1-0 lead. After two were out, Cowher helped herself with a single and came home on Jess Shynder's (Milton/Milton) RBI double. In the fifth, Deanna Wolfe (Milton/Milton) scored on a Roba single after Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville) had been thrown out home attempting to score earlier in the inning. In game two, Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) pitched a three-hitter to lead the Huskies to a 6-1 win. Smith struck out four and walked just one to earn her fifth win of the season. The Huskies went deep three times in the game including a three-run homer by Becca Kehler (Klingerstown/Tri-Valley) in the fourth inning. In the sixth inning, with the Huskies leading 3-1, Samantha Basalik (Warminster/William Tennent) hit a solo shot with Zarski adding a two-run shot. Bloomsburg, 30-8, 17-3 in the PSAC East, will host Kutzown University Thursday at 3 p.m. in a doubleheader. |
