Bloomsburg Sweeps West Chester in SoftballWEST CHESTER —Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) extended her shutout streak to 29 innings to lead Bloomsburg University to a 7-0 win over West Chester University in softball action Wednesday afternoon. Bloomsburg won the nightcap 12-4 in five innings. In the opener, Cowher pitched her fourth straight shutout allowing just three hits, while striking out six and issuing no walks. Cowher got all the runs she would need when the Huskies scored once in the top of the first. With one out Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) walked and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Liza Pepper (Cumbola/Pottsville). Breon then scored on a single by Deanna Wolfe (Milton/Milton) to put the Huskies in the lead early. Bloomsburg made it a 2-0 game in the third when Jess Shnyder (Milton/Milton) homered to lead off the inning. In the sixth the Huskies put the game out of reach by scoring five times. Sarah McDaniel (Dallastown/Dallastown Area), who reached on an error, scored when Wolfe doubled. Wolfe then came home on a double by Becca Kehler (Klingerstown/Tri-Valley). Later in the inning, Kehler scored on a Shnyder sacrifice fly to make it 5-0. Amanda Breon then doubled homer Laurel Koster (Whitney Point, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) and Samantha Basalik (Warminster/William Tennent) who reached base on errors. In game two, the Huskies jumped out to a 6-0 lead after one inning and never looked back. Shnyder homered to lead off the game to get the Huskies going. Wolfe then had an RBI single to make it 2-0. Later, with the bases loaded, Basalik hit a three-run triple and came around to score on an error during the play. In the third inning the Huskies scored five times with Shnyder getting a two-run single and Wolfe hitting a three-run homer. Jen Probst (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) picked up the win for the Huskies going the distance and allowing five hits. In the doubleheader Wolfe was 5-8 with six RBI's, while Shndyer was 4-7 with two homers and five RBI's. Bloomsburg, 25-7, 12-2 in the PSAC, will host Millersville Friday at 1 p.m. |
