Bloomsburg Splits Pair Tuesday In Softball

OSCEOLA, FL—The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games on Tuesday beating South Dakota, 1-0, and losing to Northern Kentucky, 1-0. The loss was the first of the season for the Huskies.

Northern Kentucky took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning. Bloomsburg cut the lead in half when Kelly Zarski hit a two-run, two-out double scoring Alyson Taylor who had reached on a fielder's choice. The Huskies threatened in the top half of the seventh getting runners at first and second with one, but failed to get the runners any further.

In game two, the Huskies bounced back with a 1-0 win over South Dakota. Pitcher Amber Cowher tossed her second straight shutout by allowing just one hit, striking out nine and walking one. The lone run of the game was scored in the bottom of the fifth inning when Jess Shnyder slammed a double scoring Crystal Condran who had singled.

The lone hit allowed by Cowher came in the sixth inning with one out.

The Huskies, 5-1, are idle Wednesday and will play on Thursday against Nova Southeastern and Ferris State.
