Bloomsburg Sweeps Holy Family; Hutchinson Wins 1,400th Game
PHILDELPHIA—The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of game from Holy Family on Tuesday by identical 6-0 scores. The win in game one was the 1,400th in the coaching career of Bloomsburg's Jan Hutchinson. In her career Hutchinson has guided the Huskies to 462 wins in field hockey and 939 in softball. Overall, her combined record stands at 1,401-266-22.
In game one, the Huskies got a two-hitter from pitcher Amber Cowher, who was 2-3 with the bat. Bloomsburg scored two runs in each of the third, fifth and sixth innings. Dee Wolfe had a two-run doubles in both the second and fifth innings, while Amanda Breon had a two-run homer in the sixth. Cowher started the rally in the second inning with a double.
In game two, the Huskies Jess Shnyder led off the game with a homer, then added a two-run, bases loaded double in the second inning to pace the offense. Samantha Basalik was 2-3 in game two after going 4-4 in game one. Amanda Smith picked up the win in game two that was called after five innings due to darkness.
The Huskies, 9-5, host Lock Haven on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m.
