Bloomsburg Softball Splits Twinbill with Mansfield
MANSFIELD—The Bloomsburg University softball team split a twinbill with Mansfield on Tuesday winning game two 12-2 in five innings after dropping the opener, 3-2.
In game two, the Huskies started the scoring in the second when Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) homered to lead off the inning then added four more in the third. Breon doubled home one run, while Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville) doubled home two and stole home for the fourth run off the frame.
Bloomsburg put the game out of reach with seven runs in the top of the fifth. Samantha Basalik (Warminster/Willian Tennet) had one of the Huskies' seven hits in the inning, a two-run single, that made the score 11-2.
Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) picked up the win for the Huskies going five innings and striking out six.
In the opener, the Huskies lost 3-2 with the Mountaineers getting the game-winning runs in the bottom of the sixth. Bloomsburg trailed 1-0 in the fourth when Zarski doubled and came around to score on a double by pitcher Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) to tie the score at 1-1. Bloomsburg took a 2-1 lead in the top of the sixth when Breon homered with two outs.
Mansfield regained the lead for good in the bottom of the sixth inning on the strength of a two-run homer from Jacklyn Laskowski.
Bloomsburg goes to 17-8-1, 4-3-1 in the PSAC East, with the split. The Huskies go to Kutztown on Wednesday for a doubleheader starting at 2:30 p.m.
