BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University softball team swept Millersville University on Friday, 7-2 and 7-0.
In the first game, the Huskies got off to a quick start, scoring one run in both the first and second innings. Millersville attempted to take the lead in the fifth after scoring on an error, but Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) recorded a strikeout with two outs and the bases loaded to end the rally. The Huskies scored another run in the fifth on a Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville) single to take a 3-1 advantage before Millersville again closed the deficit to one in the top of the sixth on a double by Lisa Cendoma. However, Bloomsburg rallied for four runs in the sixth, sixth sparked by a Jess Shnyder (Milton/Milton) two run homerun, to put the game out of reach.
Shnyder led the Huskies with three hits and 10 total bases. Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) and Alyson Taylor (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) added two hits to a Bloomsburg offense that total 12 hits in the game. Amber Cowher picked up her seventh win of the season on the mound for the Huskies.
In game two. Jamie Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) pitched a three hit shutout in a game shortened to six innings due to darkness. Kelly Zarski scored the only run Bloomsburg would need on a single off the red hot bat of Jess Shnyder. The Huskies scored runs in the last four innings to extend their current winning streak to six games.
Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) highlighted the third inning with a homerun while Shnyder hit a homer, her second of the day, in the fourth. Dee Wolfe drove in two runs in the fifth as Bloomsburg put the game away.
Jess Shnyder was four for four while Dee Wolfe added two hits to lead the Huskies. Shnyder finished the series hitting seven of eight with 22 total bases.
