Bloomsburg Splits with Millersville in Softball

MILLERSVILLE—The Bloomsburg University softball team split with Millersville on Saturday losing the opener, 6-5 in eight innings, before coming back to win the nightcap, 5-0.

In the first game, Millersville scored four times in the bottom of the first inning to grab the early edge. The Huskies chipped away with a run in the second Kelly Zarski's RBI single. Bloomsburg got two more in the third on Amanda Breon's two-run homer, then tied the score in the fifth on Amber Cowher's RBI hit.

Going to extra innings, the Huskies went ahead 5-4 on Laurel Koster's RBI double with one out. However, Koster was left stranded after the next two batters struckout.

Millersville won the game in the eighth when Serena Pellitteri doubled home runs with one out.

In game two, Bloomsburg pitcher Amanda Smith limited the Marauders to two hits, while the offense was led by Koster who had a hit and two RBI, while Jess Shndyer had two hits and an RBI. Bloomsburg got one run in each of the fourth and fifth innings before putting the game away with three in the sixth.

The Huskies, 21-10-1, 8-5-1 in the PSAC East, will host Philadelphia University on Monday at 2:30 p.m.
