Bloomsburg Advances at NCAA Softball Regionals

BLOOMSBURG —The Bloomsburg University softball team rallied for a 3-2 win over Virginia State in an elimination game Friday at the NCAA Division II Mid-Atlantic Regional championships at Shippensburg University. The Huskies second game of the day, a matchup with Lock Haven, was suspended after an inning and a half due to rain. The game will resume Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Against Virginia State, the Huskies fell behind 2-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Virginia State scored two unearned runs. The Huskies tied the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the fourth. Jess Shnyder doubled to start the inning and moved to third on bunt. After Amanda Breon walked putting runners at the corner, Bloomsburg scored its first run on a wild pitch with Breon moving over to third. Dee Wolfe then grounded out scoring Breon with the tying run.

Bloomsburg scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh. Wolfe singled to start the inning. After Jess Snader pinch ran for Wolfe, Sara Roba sacrificed Snader to second. Snader then moved to third on a strikeout, throwout play at first base. Laurel Koster then singled home Snader with the game-winning run.

Jaime Wilson picked up the win for Bloomsburg tossing a complete game four-hitter.

Bloomsburg goes to 27-15-1 with the win.
