Bloomsburg Softball Splits Pair<
OSCEOLA, FL—Amanda Smith's (Sandy Ridge/Phillipsburg-Osceola) two-run single in the top of the seventh drove in the go-ahead runs to lift the Bloomsburg University softball team to a 5-3 win over Ferris State on Friday. In the day's opening game the Huskies lost to Nova Southeastern University, 2-1.
With Bloomsburg trailing 3-2 heading into the top of the seventh inning against Ferris State, Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) and Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) opened the inning with back-to-back singles. Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) then followed with a single that scored Wolfe with the tying run. After Ferris State changed pitchers, Jen Probst (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) walked to load the bases. That's when Smith followed with a single scoring Roba and Breon with the go-ahead runs.
Ferris State tried to rally in the bottom of the seventh inning and had the tying run at the plate before Smith induced a fly ball to end the game.
In the day's first game, the Huskies managed just four hits in losing to Nova Southeastern, 2-1. Jess Shnyder (Milton/Milton) drove home Laurel Koster (Whitney Point, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) with the Huskies' lone run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.
Bloomsburg, 7-3, will wrap up its Florida trip with Southern Illinois-Edwardsville and Wisconsin-Parkside on Saturday.
