Huskies Down West Chester in Softball

BLOOMSBURG—The Bloomsburg University softball team limited West Chester to just one hit in each game of their softball doubleheader and beat the Golden Rams 9-0 and 8-0 on Friday.
In game one, pitcher Amber Cowher (Williamsport/Williamsport) threw a one-hit shutout and Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) drove home three runs to lead Bloomsburg to the win.
The Huskies got all the runs they needed in the first inning when Wolfe singled home Jess Shnyder (Milton/Milton) and Samantha Basalik (Warminster/Wm. Tennent) to give Bloomsburg a 2-0 lead. Bloomsburg added four more runs in the second inning to go up 6-0. Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) doubled to open the inning and moved to third on a single by Laurel Koster (Whitney Point, NY/Cicero North Syracuse). Shnyder then singled home Roba for a 3-0 lead. Then, one out later, Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) tripled to bring in Koster and Shnyder with Wolfe following with a single to score Breon for a 6-0 lead.
The Huskies ended the game on the mercy rule with three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning with Shnyder hitting a two-run homer with two outs to stop play.
Cowher picked up her 10th win of the year and the 32nd career shutout.
In game two, the Huskies' Jaime Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) also limited the Golden Rams to one hit, while Breon led the offense going 3-3 with three runs scored and two RBI. Shnyder also had a big game going 2-3 with three RBI. Both Shnyder and Breon slammed home runs in the game.
Bloomsburg got all it would need in the first inning when Shnyder reached on an error to start the inning, then, later scored on a double from Breon. After a strikeout, Cowher tripled home Breon for a 2-0 lead. The Huskies put the game away with three runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Shndyer hit a two-run homer and Breon followed one batter later with a solo shot.
Shnyer finished the day 5-7 with two homers and five RBI, while Breon was 4-6 with four runs scored and three RBI.
Bloomsburg, 20-9-1, 7-4-1 in the PSAC East, will play at Millersville on Saturday at 1 p.m. West Chester falls to 10-17, 4-8 in the PSAC East, with the losses.
