Bloomsburg Splits with West Chester in Softball

WEST CHESTER The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games with West Chester on Saturday winning 9-1 in six innings and losing 4-3 in the nightcap. The loss in game two coupled with Kutztown's split with Shippensburg leaves the Huskies' out of next week's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) playoffs.
In the opener, the Huskies were tied 1-1 going into the fourth inning when Bloomsburg erupted for three runs. Jess Shndyer (Milton/Milton) singled home two runs with Laurel Koster (Whitney Point, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) also getting an RBI single. The Huskies added three runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to get the six-inning win.
In game two, the Huskies jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on a single.
Bloomsburg stretched the lead to 3-0 with a pair of third inning runs. Wolfe singled home Shnyder who had doubled for one run. Wolfe later scored in the inning on a ground out by Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville).
West Chester started its comeback in the fifth inning when Falan Glynn hit a three-run homer to tie the game. The Golden Rams got the game winning run in the sixth when Erin Davis singled, move to second on a wild pitch and scored on a single by Megan Fuller.
Bloomsburg did get the tying run on first in the top of the seventh with one out, but West Chester got a fly out and ground out to end the game.
The Huskies, 25-14-1, 12-9-1 in the PSAC East, will close out the regular season on Sunday hosting Mansfield starting at 1 p.m.
