Bloomsburg Softball Sweeps Pair From Catawba College

SALISBURY, NC —The Bloomsburg University softball team swept a pair of games from Catawba College on Thursday by scores of 3-2 and 8-6 in eight innings.

In the opener, the Huskies used three solo home runs and the strong pitching of Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) to earn the win. Bloomsburg got a home run from Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) to lead off the game; a solo homer from Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) in the fourth inning and a solo shot from Tina Jennosa (Downingtown/Hauppauge) in the sixth.

Smith struckout nine and walked just three in earning the win.

In the nightcap, the Huskies and Catawba were tied 6-6 after seven innings. In the eighth inning (playing with the tie breaking rule of starting the inning with a runner at second base) the Huskies scored twice taking advantage of a hit batter, an error and a couple of passes balls.

Jaime Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) pitched 7 2/3 innings of relief to earn the win. Wilson fanned seven and walked just one.

Bloomsburg, 7-1, will face Virginia Union on Friday at 2 p.m.
