Bloomsburg Softball Team Sweeps Goldey-Beacom

NEWARK, DE—The Bloomsburg University softball team swept two games from Goldey-Beacom College on Saturday winning 3-1 and 4-1.

In game one Bloomsburg pitcher Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) allowed just three hits and struck out 10 to lead the Huskies to the win.

With no score through three innings, the Huskies got on the board in the fourth inning when, with two outs, Alyson Taylor (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) walked and Laurel Koster (Whitney Point, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) singled putting runners at first and second. Tara Emery (Sunbury/Shikellamy) then singled down the left line scoring Taylor with the first run.

Bloomsburg added to its lead in the fifth inning. With one out, Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) reached on an error, then came around to score on a triple by Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville). After a line out, Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) singled then singled scoring Zarski with the third run.

Goldey-Beacom scored its only in the bottom of the seventh when Emily Kimble tripled and scored on a wild-pitch.

In game two, catcher Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) went 2-3 with two runs batted in and pitcher Jaime Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) struck out 10 and did not walk a batter to gain the win.

Scoreless again through three innings, the Huskies scored twice in the fourth inning. Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) tripled and scored on a single by Emery. Corliss then doubled bringing around Emery with the second run.

The Huskies added a run in the fifth on an RBI single by Wolfe and a run in the sixth on an RBI single by Corliss.

Goldey-Beacom scored its lone run in the bottom of the sixth when it picked up four of hits seven hits.

The Huskies, 13-1, will play at Columbia Union (MD) on Sunday at 11 a.m.
