Bloomsburg Splits with Kutztown in Softbal

Box Score-GAME ONE

Box Score-GAME TWO

KUTZTOWN —Freshman Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) drove in three runs to lead the Bloomsburg University softball team to a 6-3 win and a split of its doubleheader with Kutztown University on Friday. The Huskies dropped the opener of the twinbill by a 5-3 score.

Bloomsburg opened the second game of the doubleheader by loading the bases with outs. Corliss then lined a triple that scored Laurel Koster (Whitney Point, NY/Cicero North), Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) and Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) to give the Huskies a 3-0 first inning lead. Corliss finished the game going 2-4 with the three RBI.

The Huskies added two more runs in the second inning for a 5-0 lead. That would be all pitcher Jaime Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) would need as she allowed just six hits and no earned runs, while striking out seven and walking one.

In game one, the Huskies led 3-0 going into the bottom of the sixth inning. The Huskies scored once in the second inning on an RBI double by Sarah McDaniel (Dallastown/Dallastown) and two more runs scoring in the top of the sixth with Koster getting a sacrifice fly RBI and another run scoring on an error.

However, in the bottom of the sixth inning, Kutztown rallied off Bloomsburg ace Amanda Smith and scored five times. The big blow in the inning was a three-run homer from Tarin Horonzy.

Bloomsburg, 36-6, 17-5 in the PSAC East, will play Shippensburg on Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but has been moved to Sunday because of the expected bad weather on Saturday.
