Bloomsburg Softball Splits Pair on Tuesday

SALISBURY, NC —The Bloomsburg University softball team split a pair of games Tuesday on its spring trip to North Carolina. The Huskies beat Lenoir-Rhyne, 7-1, in the opener before dropping the nightcap, 3-1 to Lenoir-Rhyne.

In the opener, the teams were locked in a 1-1 battle into the top of the sixth inning when the Huskies scored twice to take the lead for good. With one out Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) walked with Jess Snader (Mount Joy/Donegal) coming into pinch run. Snader immediately stole second base before another ground out. Alyson Taylor (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) then doubled home Snader with the second run of the game before Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) doubled home Taylor for a 3-1 lead.

The Huskies put the game away with a four run seventh inning highlighted by a run scoring double from Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton).

Amanda Smith went the distance for the Huskies allowing four hits and striking out 11.

In game two, the Huskies trailed 2-0 heading into the top of the sixth inning when Bloomsburg finally broke through against the Lenoir-Rhyne pitcher. Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville) doubled to open the inning for the Huskies. After two fly outs, Taylor singled home Zarski with the Huskies' first run.

In the seventh inning, the Huskies started the inning with a single, but the runner was erased on a double play the very next batter ending any potential threat.

Jaime Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) pitched for the Huskies and struckout three and did not walk a batter.

The Huskies, 5-1, are idle on Wednesday.
