BLOOMSBURG— The Bloomsburg University softball team swept Millersville University in a doubleheader on Friday afternoon by scores of 8-0 and 9-4.

In game one, the Huskies threatened early in the first inning by loading the bases with singles by Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte) and Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton Area), while Kelly Zarski (Danville/Danville) was hit by a pitch. After Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) popped out, Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) grounded into a fielder's choice, with the bases loaded, allowing Breon to score.

In the third inning the Huskies exploded for six runs. Breon started the inning with a walk, while Zarski reached on a single. Wolfe grounded into a fielder's choice, leaving runners on the corners. Sara Roba knocked the two runners in with her team-high 15th double of the year. After Corliss reached on an error,

Laurel Koster (Whitney Point, NY/Cicero North Syracuse) singled to allow Roba to score and advance Corliss to second. The scoring barrage ended with a triple by Alyson Taylor (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore), knocking in Koster and Corliss.

The game ended in the bottom of the sixth when Tara Emery (Sunbury/Sunbury) opened the inning with a double. Dee Wolfe singled to left field, which allowed Emery to score from second and made the score 8-0.

Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) earned her 11th win of the year pitching five innings allowing only one hit and surrendering one walk, while striking out eight. Jen Probst (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin) pitched the final inning, allowing one hit.

In game two, the Marauders stunned the Huskies and starter Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) with four runs in the first inning on three straight singles by Meghan Sinback, Alexa Ashwell, Brandi Catherman and a triple by Jenn Bournonville. After a single by Brandi Adder, Fisher was relieved by Jamie Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara). Wilson struck out the next two batters to end the inning.

Bloomsburg struck back quickly in the bottom of the first with four runs of their own. After Zarski reached on a fielder's choice and Dee Wolfe walked, Roba closed the gap to one run with a three-run homerun, her team-leading eighth of the year. Two batters later, Tina Jennosa doubled, followed by another double from Laurel Koster, which knocked in Jennosa.

The Huskies took the lead for good in the second inning on hit by Roba and an error by Millersville that allowed Stef Kline (Sinking Spring/Wilson) to score from second.

After two scoreless innings, the Bloomsburg bats came alive again with four more runs in the fifth to stretch the lead to five. Roba and Corliss reached on a walk and a single, respectively, before Koster singled to score Roba from second. Hitting for Jill Homyak (Leighton/Marion Catholic), Probst clears the bases with a pinch-hit three-run homerun, her second on the year.

The run support was more than enough for Wilson who, in relief, threw 6 2/3 innings allowing only three hits and one walk, while striking out nine to earn her ninth win of the year.

Bloomsburg improves to 33-5, 14-4 in the PSAC East, and will take their eight game winning streak to East Stroudsburg for a doubleheader with the Warriors on Tuesday. With the losses, Millersville falls to 12-23, 3-11 in the PSAC East.
