Bloomsburg Softball Sweeps Pair on Sunday

DURHAM, NC —The Bloomsburg University softball team opened its 2005 season with a sweep of North Carolina Central in Durham, NC on Sunday winning by scores of 11-0 in five innings and 7-0.

The Huskies scored runs in each of the first four innings of the game on Sunday getting two runs in the first, three in both second and third innings and two more in the fourth. Bloomsburg got a solo homer from Amanda Breon (Bellefonte/Bellefonte), while Sara Roba (Emmaus/Emmaus) and Alyson Taylor (Jersey Shore/Jersey Shore) each had RBI doubles. The Huskies also took advantage of six errors by North Carolina Central to aid the strong pitching of Amanda Smith (Sandy Ridge/Philipsburg-Osceola) and Jen Probst (Harrisburg/Central Dauphin).

In game two, the Huskies allowed just one hit in winning by a 7-0 score. Breon went 3-3 for the Huskies with a two-run single in the second inning and a run scoring single in the fourth inning, while Dee Wolfe (Milton/Milton) added a sacrifice fly.

Jaime Wilson (Olyphant/Bishop O'Hara) pitched the first four innings with Sheelin Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) finishing up the final three. The only hit allowed by the Huskies was a two out single in the fourth inning.

Bloomsburg, 2-0, will visit Winston-Salem St. for a twinbill on Monday at 11 a.m.
